Math Resources-

The math curriculum in fourth grade is geared towards knowing multiplication and division, fractions, United States/customary measurement, geometrical shapes, area and perimeter, graphing, probability, number patterns in algebra, and much more. Over time, I have gathered math resources for the benefit of my students, time saving, and other teachers who are seeking resources.

  • Number Sense, Geometry, Measurement, Algebra, and Data Analysis- Includes math printables I have created as well.
  • Teaching Math with the Five E's
  • Math Brains- A List of Math Websites for Students

Camp Math Resources- This is a mini-unit I created with hands-on and critical thinking activities for individuals/partners.

  • Six activities for Camp Math
  • For Activity #2- Camping Shopping Catalog
  • For Activity #3- Course Schedule- You fill out your own camping schedule on the chart provided in the main file.

Math Vocabulary (Created by the fabulous Heather Renz)

  • Mrs. Renz's Math Vocabulary Wall Cards

Top Notch Math Planning Resources (Not my resources)-

  • TREMENDOUS Math Resources for Grades 3-5
  • Laura Candler's Math Resources
  • Mrs. Renz's Math Website List
  • Math 5 Live- Math Cartoons and Lessons

    Math Magic (Not my resources)-

  • Math Magic Activities
  • Magic Square- Whichever way you add the numbers in the "magic square", the total is always 15.

    A Spectacular Idea-

United States/Travel Math- I make Power Point presentations of different locations across the United States and write questions for my students to answer about the place.

For example, here are some of the questions I wrote about New York-

  • The Statue of Liberty was introduced in 1886. The year is now 2009. How many years has the Statue of Liberty been standing in New York Harbor?
  • The weight of the Statue of Liberty is 450,000 pounds. There are 2,000 pounds in one ton. How many tons is the Statue of Liberty?
  • The Empire State Building is 1,450 feet tall. There are 3 feet in 1 yard. How many yards tall is the Empire State Building?
  • At the Museum of Natural History, there are 600 dinosaurs on display! Tell me how many dinosaurs there are in 50% of 600.
  • At the Museum of Natural History, there are 600 dinosaurs on display! Tell me how many dinosaurs there are in 75% of 600.
  • You think about it and realize you are 1,800 miles from home. If you drive 60 miles an hour, how many hours are you from home?

Though the process of writing questions and creating a PowerPoint presentation takes a while, it makes math more fun for the students, especially when they have visuals that go along with the questions. You can also write questions based on facts about what can happen in a minute's time. A perfect book is Every Minute on Earth, published by Scholastic.
