Beginning of the Year-

Besides working on your procedures and getting students acquainted with your classroom/style of teaching/resources, here are some other resources I have located and created-

  • This Is... Me.- A Jasztalville original resource. I actually use this resource in the middle of the year for a writing portfolio project, yet it can also be adaptable at the beginning or end of the year. [Other resources are in there called “The Superhero” and “Modern Day Heroes”. Pick and choose; maybe use one page in September and another in January!]
  • "Me Bags"- Traditionally shared in Jasztalville on the second day of school. With one click on the link above, you can read instructions in .pdf form that my students receive every year.
  • Jasztalville License- Our classroom theme, “Life is a Highway”, lends to students filling out an application for a Jasztalville license ™.
  • "I Am" Poem- The format for writing an "I Am" poem.
  • The New and Improved 'What I Did on My Summer Vacation'|Scholastic.com- The start of the new school year is a time to get to know your students, assess their abilities, and determine learning styles, but time is short. These introductory activities will give you insight into your class and their families while providing several baseline samples. Using children's literature as a guide, students retell the story of a family vacation that leads to a surprise-culminating event at the end. Students will also share background information through their "All About Me Museum" displays, a project that integrates four core social studies strands. As a bonus, you'll be able to create a stunning hallway display just in time for your school's Meet the Teacher Night, using student created poems and photographs derived from the lesson, "The Best Part of Me."
  • Textbook Agreement- Organization is pertinent. This sheet will help students to take responsibility for their textbooks.
  • Most Valuable Reader Trading Card
  • Reading Interests Survey
  • Book Swap Recording Sheet
  • Your Own Character Traits Sheet
  • Science and Social Studies Journal Templates
  • Math Magic Activities
  • Big Huge Labs- Make custom name badges, custom mosaics, movie posters (they look realistic; I did one for test prep this past year), magazine covers, trading cards, printable cubes, CD covers, and slideshows. You can make neat beginning of the year projects with some of these designs.
