TITANIC Assignment
August-September
2006

Ms. Jasztal’s
advanced reading class portrayed different imaginary characters from the
TITANIC who either survived or perished. The writing assignment was to talk
about what happened once the ocean liner hit the iceberg. Here are our
imaginary passengers.

One Sunday
evening, Veronica Jasztal snuck into the kitchen and grabbed a bag of
cookies. They tasted like heaven to her. Suddenly, she heard a loud thud that
sounded like thunder! At first she thought it was just rain, but then she
found out the Titanic was sinking! She ran to the deck as fast as she could
and got into lifeboat #16. When the boat was lowering into the sea, the chain
broke and she fell into the icy cold water. Veronica screamed and yelled
until another life boat picked her up and put her in. It was lifeboat #18.
She thanked God that she hadn’t died from frostbite. When she looked back, the
ship broke in two pieces, letting millions of things fall out. The Titanic
slowly sank beneath the ocean like the way a turtle swam in the water very,
very slowly. Hundreds of people ran to the ship and hung on for dear life.
Veronica fell asleep in the life boat. When she woke up, she was in a room
with yellow walls and two lamps beside her. Veronica was in a bed that felt
like a lamb was hugging her because it was so soft. Somebody opened the door
and went inside the room. He had brown hair with dark green eyes. His eyes
were so dark they looked like seaweed. He asked Veronica if she was okay. She
asked him, “What happened?” in a puzzled voice. He told her she was on board
the Santa Rosa. Then she asked him his name. His name was Steven. Steven told
her that she had been rescued from life boat #18. She spent almost all of the
afternoon asking him questions. Now Veronica is very elderly and is currently
on vacation with her husband Steve. Yes, she did marry the Steve I was just
talking about! They have 6 children and 11 grandchildren. But there was just
one more think I forgot to say and it is this: and they lived happily ever
after. - Sara G. Jenna Amber
Nixon, 31, is getting on the first class with her daughter, Nikki Elizabeth
Nixon, 9. They’re going to Missouri from England. All of a sudden, they heard
a “boom”! They hit an iceberg that made a big hole. They started seeing water
coming in. The boat started to sink. They grabbed something to hold on to,
and she wished she had never come. They survived, but her daughter had to
stay in a lifeboat away from her while Jenna went down to rescue her
boyfriend and his baby Leann Nicole Brackish, 9 weeks old. They climbed onto
the life boat and lived. They are still alive today and got married on May
16, 1920. - Katy B. Sharea Nicole ShonLay is
first class. She died when she was 19. She tried to hang on to the boat but
she just woke up and she was too weak. So she fell in the middle of the boat
and it buried her. Her mother was on the boat, and she survived. Yet when she
heard about her daughter, she was crushed and five years later the mother
died, too. We think she died from sadness, but we don’t know. The father,
Dash, is still alive now. He is 99 and he remarried, but we don’t know to
whom. - Jennifer
S. One day a
man named George McFly got on the TITANIC. The
Titanic was a big metal boat that was unsinkable. One day he was playing ping
pong when all of a sudden he felt a thud. He assumed the worst and started
running up the stairs to the dock. Everyone said, “We hit an iceberg!” He ran
to the captain and asked what happened. The captain answered that we hit an
iceberg. George said to get all the children and girls off the boat. He ran
to a life boat that was full but he lay on the ground and survived. He watched
the Titanic sink. - Matthew P.
One day a
man named Jake Fileps got on the Titanic. When he
went to bed, he heard a bang. Everyone ran to the deck but they held the men
back. Jake got on the last lifeboat and lived, but he jumped back on the Titanic
to save his sweetheart. They ran and ran as fast as they could. They jumped
and they made it. Yet his sweetheart died of the cold water. But he found
another women and they got married. And he and the love of his life lived
happily ever after. - Christopher
J. Emily Rose
Hatchet is nineteen and is a first class passenger. She is a model too, and
she survived on the Titanic. She is still alive today and still famous. A
photographer asked her if she wanted to take some pictures on the deck. So
she put on her purple dress. Then she put on a big purple hat with a big
purple ribbon. She put on her high pink shoes. Then she walked up to the deck
and posed to take some pictures. Then she fell down with a thud and yelled,
“Earthquake!” She ran to the captain, and the captain told her that they had
hit a big iceberg. The captain told her to go to the lifeboats and the crew
men would help her in. So she got in a lifeboat and started to row away,
watching the Titanic sink. She is still telling her story today. - Maria C. Claire DeSwan, 16, was in the hot tub with 16 close friends and
the hot tub was only open to them. Suddenly the iceberg hit, and she as well
as men in trunks ran to lifeboat #16. Luckily she and her fellows were saved.
Now she lives in California with thirty-two children not far from her. Yay, she and her fellows survived!!! Good thing she
survived because then I wouldn’t be writing about her journey if she didn’t
live, would I? In 1912,
Cady Renena Alisse
boarded the Titanic. She was a first class passenger. She belonged to a
little or should I say BIG baseball team. They were as close to perfect as it
could get. She was sleeping when the Titanic hit the iceberg. The next day
was her birthday, and she was turning thirty years old. The next day her
husband was booking reservations for the fanciest restaurant on the ship.
When he heard the shrieking, he went and got his wife and two children Adam
and Carly. She quickly dressed them. They got on a
lifeboat and Adam fell out, but Cady grabbed him and pulled him into the
boat. They got to land. - Hannah H. There was a
lady named Elizabeth Marsh Rose who got on the Titanic. She was 35 and on the
first class. The Titanic was enormous and made out of metal and wood. The
first class was really fancy. She got on the Titanic because she heard it was
unsinkable. One day a man that was on the boat woke her up. The man said,
“Hurry! Hurry! Get your children dressed!” She had two children named Maronda and Jamale. Her
children said, “What’s happening?” “The Titanic hit an iceberg,” answered
Mrs. Rose. “But we are scared to die!” said Jamale
and Maronda. The children were afraid, and their
mom Mrs. Rose wondered if there would be a boat for them. The more Maronda and Jamale wondered
about what could happen to them, they cried, prayed, jumped up and down, and
said they never imagined nothing like that in 100
billion years of their life. The lady wanted to get in the lifeboat with her
children, but she couldn’t because the boat was full. So she got on a
different lifeboat, #11. She was looking for them for days. Mrs. Rose found Maronda and Jamale. The family
survived but the second class did not. Elizabeth, Maronda,
and Jamale wanted to go see their family and Meronda and Jamale’s father.
When the children saw their father, they told him about the trip. The lady
and her children said “I’m not getting on a boat any more.” Well, at least
they survived! - Aaliyah R. Ms.
Elizabeth Masuny Barber, 36, 2nd class
passenger. She was down in the late night kitchen eating her own personal
chocolate buffet open to no one but her. She was eating away while doing her
lesson plans in her notebook. The ship hit the iceberg, and she ran to her
two children and husband (who was still asleep). She
woke him up and went into lifeboat #20. She is still alive with her husband
and two children. She always yells everywhere, “Give me my chocolate!!!” - Shannon F.

Henry Hartley. Second class. Age thirty-three. He died along with a lot of
other people when the Titanic sank. He was tuning his violin and getting
ready to play a song with a band on the ship when he heard a loud boom and a
screech, but not a long one. He was the leader of a lot of different
orchestras. He died because he got held back with all the other men. He raced
up the Grand Staircase to see what happened. He was up in time to see the
iceberg. He thought, Did he hit that iceberg? Then all of a sudden, he knew that they
hit it, so he didn’t ask the captain what happened. He ended up going down
with the somewhat 800 other people. - Race M. Meneiko A.
Peterson was a first-class passenger. His room was pure gold and he paid
$5,000 for everything except his bed. The food was plentiful and his private
pool was only open to girls and him. His pool was 20 feet wide. He was
swimming in the shallow end, eating his extra-extra large pizza. The boat
suddenly shook, shook, and shook some more. He ran to his room, got his seven
coats on, and then charged for a lifeboat. On his way there, he shoved and
pushed people out of his way. He hopped on the boat and survived. The
Carpathia saved him from freezing to death, and he stayed until he saw the
bridge to New York. - Jeremiah
D. My name is
Alexander P. Arsomeparketaretovormendommel the fourth. I am single and put in
so much money to go on the TITANIC that I almost went bankrupt. Oh, and by
the way my last name was changed- it used to be Domandoth
the fourth but something happened toward the end- but let’s get back to where
we were. So I got so curious I snuck up to second class then before I knew it
I was in first class. I went into one of the rooms. It was huge!!! Solid gold
everywhere, giant ice sculptures, and bigger rooms than mine. I was so amazed
I almost forgot to be quiet. Then I tried to take a brick of gold but I got
so nervous I went back to my small cramped room in third class. It was very
dark, so I felt around for my mattress, pillow, and blanket in a corner, and
began to sleep. When I woke up, I quickly remembered that today was buffet
day at the Titanic. So I quickly got dressed and ran to the dinner. I grabbed
seven of everything in sight and what I couldn’t finish I stuffed I mean
crammed leftovers into my coat pocket. I left off whispering, I haven’t eaten like that since I was 7
years old. Then suddenly, the boat shook while I was resting my eyes and
slowly my small cramped room began to fill with water!!!!! I immediately ran
up to the docks and asked what was going on- of course I lied to get on a
lifeboat and made it to New York. The leftovers even survived. In New York, I
married Ms. Dorsson Speckason
and became very wealthy. I still wonder what had happened. - Michael M.
Elizabeth
Hoot McEntire was from Chicago and on the boat when
the Titanic sank. She was eating a chicken dinner when she found out that the
Titanic hit an iceberg. She was 18 at the time and is still alive today. She
had two girls who were twins and only one day old. She was in love with John
Lee Smith- she loved him and he loved her. Her children were named Kaitlyn and Meshealle. Her
children, husband, and herself were in first class.
Her husband was shaving while the Titanic hit an iceberg. She led her family
to rescue, and they all survived. She could not finish her chicken because
she had to make it to safety as fast as she possibly could. - Destra M. Beth Laura
Rosa was a first class passenger. She was 31 years old with her daughter
Nicky Rosa. As Nicky was sleeping, Ms. Beth was sitting in the hot tub
relaxing when all of a sudden the hot tub turned off. The water was turning
cold and the water started rising. She ran up the grand staircase to get her
10 year old daughter Nicky. She was up and in her best clothing when her
mother grabbed her by the hand. They went up to deck and someone grabbed
them. They survived the long cold waters when they got to her destination,
Rhode Island. Ms. Beth saw her mother and father. She told them about the
long journey. Ms. Beth lived fifty more years while Nicky lived seventy years
later. - Nicky R. Sheri Lynn Tigue was 32. She was in the pool relaxing when the
Titanic hit the iceberg. She ran to get her ten year old daughter Alexis. She
got their coats and got their lifejackets. They were 1st class so
they both got in lifeboat #11. It was so full of people they couldn’t see
anything at all. The captain soon said, “Sheri and Alexis,
go back on the ship. You forgot your purse with your money in it.” She
answered, “I want to stay.” She had her money in her pocket the whole time.
So they survived and got home and told everybody about it. They were
surprised, and they lived for a long, long time. - Alexis T. Ellin Nellie Barber was singing in the shower. As
soon as she realized the Titanic was sinking, she thought, Oh, I hope the
Titanic does not crash and I hope I don’t have to get on lifeboat #13. I’d
rather go on lifeboat #11 with my mom. She ran out and said the Titanic
crashed so it happened again and she found out it really did crash. She got
on lifeboat #13. - Chloe S. Hello, I am
John James Jr., age 20. I was swimming when the water shook. I ran to get my
clothes on. I ran up one floor to the deck because I am first class.
Everybody was screaming Hole! Hole!
Iceberg! Iceberg! I ran to the edge and saw a crevice in the side. The
boat lunged forward and was sinking. I ran to a lifeboat and sat down with
everyone else. I made it to safety, but not a lot did. We rowed to the huge
ship, the Carpathia. I was looking for my twin brother, James John. I found
him on deck pretty fast and we waited to get to North America to our mother
and father. We hugged and thought about the Titanic sinking to the bottom of
the ocean. - Nick P. Alisa Ray Percens was 20. She was first class and a famous dancer,
singer, and performer. She loved the Army and worked on cars. She fell in
love and got married on the Titanic. She was a football player and lost a
football on the Titanic. She was playing football when the ship hit the
iceberg. She survived, but she lost her husband as well as her parrot, dog,
cat, snake, rat, mouse, and baby raccoon. When she landed, she found out she
was pregnant. In 1913, she had her babies, which turned out to be twins. She
had a girl and a boy. After that, she had four girls and three boys. - Scarlett H. I was on the
Titanic because I wanted a nice trip and start a new life in New York. While
the Titanic hit the iceberg, I was first class so I was eating a fancy
dinner. I was eating a nice juicy steak and a juicy hamburger. My drink was a
big Coke. My side was salty French fries. How I reacted… man, you don’t want
to know, but I’ll tell you, anyway. When I heard the Titanic was sinking, I
rushed out to the deck and yelled at the top of my lungs, “WOMEN AND CHILDREN
FIRST!!!” My job was a restaurant stockholder. I made new food and stuff like
that. Everybody was pushing me, so I ran and I fell off the ship, but someone
grabbed me. Then I sailed away, even though I am a man. I didn’t see anyone
survive except the people on the lifeboat. I knew the people with me on the
lifeboat because they ate with me in the first class dinner. I didn’t have
any children with me, but my wife did at home. I traveled to the place where
the Titanic was taking off in England. When I was getting on the lifeboat,
everybody was pushing me out of the way and when I was getting on the rescue
ship, the ropes were soaked. - David J. |
